May 30 - Pecos Wilderness Hike

On May 30 we drove up to the Pecos Wilderness, Jack's Creek Campground to be exact, chose a trail and headed out.  Aside from the trail being at over 8000' altitude it was fairly easy.

We love the Pecos area - it is very special to me as I spent many a summer vacation in a leaky tent with my parents up here.  It has changed and some of it, unfortunately is not for the better - too many people have discovered it and it has such easy access from Santa Fe & Albuquerque that it gets really, REALLY crowded but it is still a wonderful place with lots of wonderful memories.

Here's some pics from our hike...

Taking a break

We picnic'ed at an open table in the horse campground.  We were able to let the dogs run for a bit.  It's a nice open meadow with great views of the mountains.  The 'regular' campground is about a mile in front of the truck (in the next photo) but it was full.  Again, its nice, most sites have ample room between the campsites but they are all very open as they are located in another open meadow.
